Need to add a user to your Google Analytics account? Here’s how, step-by-step and with visuals in case you find it helpful! Of course, you’ll need to log in to your account and then we’ll walk through it together.

Step 1: Go to the Admin Section

You will need to go from the data analytics side to the admin side to add a new user.

The main navigation menus are on the left hand side. Now go all the way to the bottom and click on ‘Admin’.

Step 2: Add New User & Permissions

A new window will pop up for ‘Account Permissions’. Here you need to look for the big blue button in the top right corner to add a new user and set the permissions for the level of access you want to grant.

In the ‘Add Permissions’ window (see below) that comes next there are three items required to get the user added and define permissions.

  1. Enter the email address of the person you want to add as a user. Make sure you are adding someone with an existing google account, otherwise you won’t be able to add them. You can leave ‘notify new users by email’ ticked.
  2. Set the appropriate permissions. Should be pretty straight forward but if someone simply needs to have access to view your stats, then read & analyze should be sufficient. If they need to make any edits to the setup for you then go ahead and give them edit, collaborate, and read & analyze. If they will be managing your analytics account on a regular basis and you want them to add users for you the next time then make sure you give them manage users access.
  3. Activate the new user by clicking the blue ‘Add’ button in the top right corner.

Step 3: Edit or Revoke Permissions

Say you want to edit permissions because you didn’t get it right the first time, the situation has changed or you just want to revoke permissions all together. Well, you simply repeat Step 1 above, going to Admin -> User Management, and then you will have the list of users again, under ‘Account Permissions’

Click where the red arrow is pointing in the screenshot above, the three small dots next to the permissions column. You will have the option to View Details or Remove Access.

If you chose to View you are back at the permissions and can make changes there for each property you gave them access to. Don’t forget to save!
