Express Yourself With Your E-mail Closing

Posted September 5th, 2007 by Melanie

The phrase you use to close your professional e-mail messages can add a touch of personality or continue the theme of your brand, but finding the right one isn’t always easy to do. With the frequent and often informal use of e-mail, some people have broken away from formal closings for professional e-mail messages. If you are in my email list, you may have noticed I’ve been using a variety of closings lately. I “went out” in search of new ways to close my e-mails and thought I would share the more professional phrases I found. I hope you might find one or two that fit you well.

The ones we all are likely familiar with…

  • Sincerely
  • Respectfully
  • Best
  • Regards
  • Best wishes

You get the idea. We’ve all seen them and their variations, right? For a lot of us these are perfectly fine and appropriate closings. However, some business professionals like service providers and advice givers are looking for a more personal or catchy way to close their e-mails.

Here are a few that are a bit out of the norm but still can be used professionally…

  • Hope to hear from you soon
  • Until next time
  • At your service
  • With confidence
  • Your colleague
  • To your success

For “special” occasions…

  • Be well
  • Kind thoughts
  • Thinking the best for you
  • Wishing you the best
  • Enthusiastically
  • With kindest regards
  • Safe travelling
  • Wishing you a safe journey
  • I hope to receive news from you soon
  • Thank you for your kindness and consideration
  • In Gratitude
  • Cheers

The following are great for those with inspirational roles…

  • Onward and upward
  • Shine on
  • Love & light
  • Best wishes for your future
  • Smiles and laughter
  • Stay on the road ‘cos its going somewhere nice
  • Happiness is a choice
  • Be prosperous, fare well
  • Be continually prosperous
  • Peace and progress
  • Keep smiling
  • Grace and peace
  • In peace
  • Keeping it real
  • Here’s to always having loving ways and perfect days
  • With joy
  • Live well, laugh often and be merry
  • May blessings & smiles be yours
  • Seize the day
  • Cheers

And finally, my personal favorite…

  • Get me a mars bar while you’re out!

(OK, not very professional but a girl has to try!)

If you don’t feel all tingly about any of the above mentioned, try choosing one word that describes what you do and build on it with a personal touch or perhaps your company slogan or tagline will do nicely. I would love to hear your out of the ordinary closings, so please leave a comment and share!

My time is up and I thank you for yours!
Melanie

P.S. Thank you, Lisa for inspiring me on this topic. It’s been fun searching for creative new ways to close my e-mails!

    Hello,

Thanks for stopping by my blog. Yes, I do a ‘Cheers!’ for closing my blog comments, reviews, sometimes email. I am not sure though if I consistently do it for my posts.

I use Cheers because it evokes feelings of happiness, lightheartedness and warmth. Precisely, the very same emotions I want myself and other to feel. I guess in much the same way that your writing style bring on personal warmth to your readers.

    Cheers!
